My recent work develops a sense of identity through self-portraiture in painting and photography. I examine myself as a woman artist in western society, having migrated to U.S. from Hong Kong, where I had spent my childhood and young adulthood. I use my photographic self-portraiture as a foundation for creating a series of headshot-format paintings. And I present these paintings in a collage of bold colors intended to evoke viewers’ emotional experience of their own identity and culture. The color collage is also as a means to re-view the life of modern women in an increasingly diverse society as well as our strong determination of mind and potential for acceptance of who we are.
